For as long as I can remember, I have loved Halloween. I think it’s so fun to play dress up for the day. So in honor of the holiday, I thought I’d share a few of my Halloween costumes from over the past couple of years, including today’s!
2016, Minnie Mouse
I was at my parent’s house a couple of weekends ago cleaning my things out of the attic and found these Minnie Mouse ears from a family vacation we took to Disney World several years ago. I honestly wasn’t planning on dressing up this year since Halloween is on a Monday, but when I found these, I figured it would be something cute and simple. So I made myself a tutu and called it day. And I actually love the way it turned out! I wish I would’ve taken pictures while making the tutu so I could’ve shown you guys the process. It was much easier than I thought it would be. I found instructions on Pinterest by searching “DIY tutu,” and simply added the white felt circles by hot gluing them all over.
I had always wanted to find or make a good Medusa costume for some time before actually following through last Halloween. I found this headpiece and matching dress (sorry, don’t have any pictures of the dress) at a Halloween shop, which made this costume super easy. The only thing I really had to do was my makeup, which I knew needed to be on the darker side to make it a little more spooky.
2014, Scarecrow from Wizard of Oz
This was honestly one of my most favorite Halloween costumes I’ve ever done. It was so fun to dress up with Phil! Our dog Doc played along just long enough for us to snap a family photo. The makeup took a little concentration, but everything else was super simple. I found this old hat in my parent’s attic (that place is a gold mine) and bought fake straw at Michael’s to stuff in the hat and my boots. Everything else, like my blue flannel shirt, orange scarf, and green jacket pictured above, I already had. I found a makeup tutorial on Pinterest.
So as you can see, I really enjoy this holiday. Phil loves it, too, so it’s been really fun to help each other get ready and pick out costumes. There are so many creative ideas out there, that it’s hard for me to pick year to year. Anyway, I’ll wrap up this post by leaving you with a little throwback Halloween photo of my brother and I. I think this was around 1996 or ’97. Have a fun Halloween and share below what you’re dressing up as today!
